For both Gonzaga and McNamara, WCAC play will open up under the lights of the Eagles’ Buchanan Field, as both teams will look to unseat current champion and perennial powerhouse DeMatha in the area’s most competitive conference.
Gonzaga appears to be the clear favorite, as the 4-1, number 4 ranked Eagles will look to build off of an offensive showcase this past Saturday against Avalon, a game which they won handily by a score of 47-28. Gonzaga’s offense has done nothing but pick up steam since their ugly loss to Viera (FL) earlier in the season, as they have beaten their previous three opponents by a combined score of 117-34. Look for Gonzaga to push the pace early, as the Eagles have run up the score early in each of their wins this season.
McNamara has struggled in the early going this season, as they have failed to put up more than 7 points in any game, starting 0-4. McNamara does, however, have a history of pushing Gonzaga, as their contest last year resulted in a narrow 31-23 Eagles win. In desperate need of a victory, the Mustangs will look to upset the Eagles by finally getting their offense going, and getting after Gonzaga’s freshman quarterback Caleb Williams.
